In March 2021, Westminster’s Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia program will submit its application to the COA for approval to award the Doctor of Nursing Practice. Upon approval by the COA, Westminster will enroll its first doctoral cohort in the new Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia program in May 2022. Are you concerned that the Westminster College Utah CRNA Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).
This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
Overview of the new program (DNP-NA)
Westminster College’s Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia program allows students to master the intellectual and technical skills required to become competent in the safe administration of anesthesia. Graduates develop life-long critical thinking skills and the professionalism needed to become compassionate, patient-centered anesthesia providers, filling the urban and rural community needs for anesthesia providers.
Who is DNP-NA For?
Experienced, graduate level nurses with the highest level of didactic instruction, anesthesia simulation, and clinical site experiences will thrive in this program.

CRNA Program Requirements (MSNA)
Since in transition to DNP-NA, and its admission requirements are not available on Westminster Website, the following requirements may not reflect the new program requirements, but may give a glimpse of school’s current requirements for a CRNA program.
Required Bachelor Degree
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited school is required. Bachelor’s in Nursing is strongly preferred. Other applicants ie. BS, BA, DC, MD, BA, DDS, etc. may also apply.
RN
Current RN license in good standing.
Critical Care
Minimum of 1 year of critical care. Critical care experience within the last 3 years is required. Applicants with experience in NICU/PICU* or with less than 1 year of critical experience may apply, but may not be selected for an interview at the MSNA Director’s discretion.
Preferred critical care experience includes:
- ICU
- Cardiac ICU
- Neuro ICU
- Thoracic ICU
- Shock-Trauma ICU
Acceptable:
- Neonatal ICU
- Pediatric ICU
- Surgical ICU
- Medical ICU
They do not accept:
- Operating Room
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
GPA
Minimum 3.0 GPA, including a minimum 3.0 GPA in core sciences
GRE Scores
GRE scores on file from within the last 5 years.
Certifications
- ACLS (Due upon acceptance into the MSNA program)
- PALS (Due before beginning clinical rotations in year 2 of the MSNA program)
- CCRN Certification is also highly recommended and encouraged.
