CRNA Training
Are you concerned that the Oakland University Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).
This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
Clinical Experience
Clinical internships begin the first semester and advance throughout the program.
Extensive time is required in the clinical setting, beginning with 16 hours a week the first term and concluding with 40 or more hours a week during the final internship.
The primary clinical site is Beaumont, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Beaumont offers 14 surgical specialties including cardiovascular, pediatric, thoracic and vascular surgery.
Other clinical sites include the Beaumont, Troy and Grosse Pointe campuses as well as 20 affiliate sites.
The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs requires a minimum of 600 cases. Students attending the Oakland University Beaumont Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia average over 900 cases.
Didactic Learning
Oakland University Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program uses a variety of teaching formats for its graduate programs.
All required Foundation courses (6 out of 15 non-clinical based classes) are offered via distance learning technology.
The Clinical Core and classroom formats, or be entirely classroom-based.
Distance learning courses at Oakland University Beaumont may require up to three face-to-face sessions during a semester. For student unable to attend any course’s required face-to-face sessions, every effort will be made to arrange alternate assignments (6 of 15 non-clinical based classes).
Full-time distance education classes are attended using video conferencing via the Tand Petoskey. Additional sites may be added.
Human Patient Simulation Technology
The Oakland decision-making skills.
Here, students can rehearse everything from basic skills to the management of difficult case scenarios. The simulation experience consists of a pre-briefing, establishing learning goals, technical introduction, a theory module, conduct of the clinical scenario and debriefing, which includes a review of the taped session.

CRNA Program Requirements
Required Bachelor Degree
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
RN:
Eligible for a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan
Critical Care:
A minimum of one year of critical care experience required. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience must be within 2 years of the application deadline.
They typically do NOT accept:
- Emergency Room (ER)
- Recovery Room
- Step-down units
GPA:
The undergraduate cumulative GPA must be a 3.0 or above.
GRE scores OR 3.5 GPA
Satisfactory achievement of GRE score (V> 146, Q> 140, A >3.0).
Applicants with an undergraduate degree of 3.5 or higher do not have to take the GRE.
International Students:
Non-native English speakers are required to provide proof of English proficiency. Students with foreign academic credentials can provide proof of English proficiency with test scores from the TOEFL or the MELAB.
