CRNA Program Summary

Are you concerned that the Samford University Alabama Nurse Anesthesia Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA). This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.

This front-loaded didactic curriculum includes both graduate nursing core knowledge and nurse anesthesia practice knowledge.

The following January is when you’ll begin the on-campus (face-to-face) didactic courses full-time.

You’ll and gain a variety of experience that will make you a well-rounded nurse anesthetist.

CRNA Program Requirements

Required Baccalaureate Degree
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program.

RN
Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse.

Critical Care
1-year full-time Acute Care experience as an RN. Acceptable critical care experience includes:

  • Medical ICU
  • Surgical ICU
  • Neuro ICU
  • Neonatal ICU
  • Pediatric ICU
  • Burn ICU
  • Trauma ICU
  • Cardiac Care Unit
  • Cardiovascular Recovery

They do not accept:

  • Emergency Department
  • Recovery Room
  • Operating Room

GPA
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 is required.

GRE Scores
On the revised test, minimum scores of 153 verbal, 144 quantitative, 4 analytical writing are required within the past 5 years.

The Miller Analogy Test (MAT) is not accepted.

TOEFL
International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 575 (paper) or 90 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Certifications
No certifications are required for admission.

Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite undergraduate courses with a “B” or better:

  • General Chemistry
  • General Research
