CRNA Program Summary
Are you concerned that the Yale-New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).
This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
The program is front loaded. During the didactic phase (12 months) the student is a full–time student at CCSU. The clinical phase (24 months) is offered primarily at the Yale-New Haven Hospital in both the operating rooms and other critical care areas, as well as the program’s 4 clinical affiliation sites (all in CT). They do not compete with residency programs for cases.

CRNA Program Requirements
BSN
BSN or another appropriate baccalaureate degree (biology, chemistry, etc.) from an N.L.N. or AACN accredited program. Must be completed by the time of application.
RN:
Current, valid RN license in one of the 50 states
Critical Care:
Minimum 1-year critical care experience, including:
- ICU
- Emergency Room
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
- Neonatal ICU
- Cardio-Thoracic ICU
Experience must be within 5 years.
GPA:
Minimum GPA of 3.0 and science GPA of 3.3 is required for consideration

- BLS
- ACLS
- CCRN
- PALS
CRNA Educational Requirements must be less than 10 years old
- Chemistry – two 4 credit courses (including inorganic and organic chemistry or biochemistry.)
- Anatomy – one 4 credit course
- Physiology – one 4 credit course
- Pharmacology– one course
- Statistics or Biostatistics – one course
- Research Methods – strongly encouraged, if you have taken that recommended course you are given a higher priority during the application process.
