Are you concerned that St Joseph Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).
This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
Program Structure
In this front-loaded program, you’ll spend your first 7 months of the CRNA program mostly on campus, completing your basic science classes.
Your last 20 months will be hospital-based, with an emphasis on advanced coursework, clinical training, and research.

Your clinical experience will take place at St Joseph Hospital as well as five affiliate site, three of which are in RI, two in MA.

CRNA Program Requirements
Required Bachelor Degree
You need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher or you must be a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in a related field.
RN
Have proof of current licensure as a registered nurse. Once accepted, you’ll need an RN license in Rhode Island Massachusetts.
Critical Care
Have a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care setting with the opportunity to develop independent decision-making skills and interpret advanced monitoring techniques.
GPA
A preferred science GPA of 3.0 anding postgraduate academic achievement.
GRE Scores
Graduate Record Exam or MAT is required.

“We give our students 25 days of personal time off during the clinical portion of the program. We are a front loaded program now in partnership with Rhode Island remaining courses. Yes, we still currently observe 10 holidays.”

“Yes, our time commitment, like most nurse anesthesia programs is significant and can be over 50 hours per week during the clinical internship.”

“Very few of our students work as RNs in addition to the clinical work as the hours of preparation andate, students must have 10 hours of rest prior to the clinical day so are unable to work after 8:30 PM.”
