CRNA Program Summary
Academic and Clinical Experience
Are you concerned that the NorthShore CRNA Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).
This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
The first year is devoted to coursework in nursing practice, applied science, advanced physical assessment, and pharmacology. There is no clinical residency in the first year.
Academic coursework is woven throughout the 20-month clinical residency and professional meetings.
Clinical residency consists of seven practicums where you will work under the instruction/supervision of a CRNA or anesthesiologist. As you gain more competence, you’ll be given more responsibility. A selection of 18 clinical sites provides an intense and diverse clinical experience.
You’ll administer general and office-based anesthesia.
You’ll administer approximately 950 anesthetics during your residency.
