CRNA Training

Though every CRNA program trains its students to effectively administer anesthesia, the focus of the University of Tulsa CRNA’s program is unbiased practice. As a full-time doctoral student here, you will have a credit load of 7-12 credits per semester and would receive classroom training, patient simulations, and a wide range of clinical experiences. Your didactic coursework would include subjects including health care delivery and policy, medical sciences, leadership, translational research, and control. You will complete your coursework by finishing a scholastic project.

Tulsa University CRNA Program Requirements

Required Bachelor Degree
You are required to have a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) accredited by a nationally accredited college.

RN:
Oklahoma (or various-state license which incorporates OK) current unrestricted Registered Nurse license is required.

Critical Care:
Within the two years before application full-time experience of at least one year in an ICU, or if working part-time then the equivalent hours within a US military hospital (outside), the United States, or its territories is required.
On average recent applicants had 3 years of experience in critical care.
They do not accept:

  • ER (Emergency Room)
  • OR (Operating Room)
  • Step-down units


Shadow:
Shadow at least one CRNA prior to the application process to have a better understanding of the role of a CRNA.

GPA:
Required grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

GRE scores:
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required.

International Students
For international candidates, it is mandatory to hold a degree similar to a bachelor’s degree (regionally accredited in the U.S.) and should have a strong educational overall performance with a “B” or above grades.

English Language Proficiency:
For all DNP programs, a minimum score of 90 in TOEFL or 6.5 in  IELTS or 110 in Duolingo must be achieved.

Certifications:

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CCRN is not required but preferred


CRNA Education Requirements
Completion of nursing courses in physiology, statistics (biostatistics), pathophysiology, anatomy, pharmacology, biology, physical assessment, and chemistry or biochemistry is required.
