Are you concerned that Carolinas Medical Center & UNC Charlotte NC’s Nurse Anesthesia Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
In this mostly front-loaded program, you’ll spend your first year completing the majority of your didactic material.
You will begin your clinical experience during the second year and didactic instruction will continue throughout the program.
Though the majority of your clinical experience will be obtained at Carolinas Medical Center, there are 5 additional clinical sites within the Carolina’s Healthcare System where you may gain your clinical experience.

CRNA Program Requirements
Required Bachelor Degree
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program
RN:
Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse. Current license in North Carolina or another state where clinical placement is going to take place identified by faculty before enrollment.
Critical Care:
A minimum of 18 months current full-time critical care experience with adult clients prior to matriculation. You may apply to the program before this experience is complete.
Acceptable critical care experience includes:
- Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Surgical ICU
- Coronary ICU
- Trauma ICU
- Neuro ICU
- Cardiovascular ICU
They do not accept:
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Emergency Department
- Operating Room
- Flight Team
- Pediatric or Neonatal ICU
GPA:
An overall undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or greater (on a 4.0 scale). A GPA of 3.3 or greater on all completed science courses:
- Biology
- Anatomy
- Physiology
- Chemistry
- Microbiology
Minimum GRE Scores:
Scores of 950 under the old format or 293 under the current format. Note that MAT scores are not accepted.
Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Course Prerequisite:
- Undergraduate statistics course with a grade of B or greater.
- Recommended to have Physics and Chemistry
- Computer literacy is required for coursework.
