Your attendance at USAGPAN is FULLY funded by one of three means:
1. The US Army

3. The Veterans’ Affairs Administration
“Attendance at USAGPAN will mean that you are (or will become) an Active Duty Commissioned Officer in the US Army, an Active Duty Commissioned Officer in the US Air Force or a contracted VA employee. Each affiliation provides full pay, tuition, medical benefits, and vacation.”
“Participants of long-term graduate (leading to a master’s or doctoral degree) education and training in a military or civilian institution shall incur an ADO of three times the length of the education or training for the first year, or portion thereof, unless such degree is incidental to the completion of an established residency or fellowship program; i.e., aerospace medicine. Additional ADOs for participation in excess of one year shall be one-half year for each half year, or portion thereof.”

CRNA Training
The primary goal of the US Army Nursing Anesthesia Graduate Program is to ensure that the graduate nurse anesthetist is qualified to deploy in time of war, civil disorder, natural disaster or for humanitarian missions.
Realize that you are on active duty the moment you report for training and benefits commiserate to your rank. Active duty is a full-time commitment.
Phase 1 is 12 months long, is purely didactic, and is presented in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Phase 2 is a 24-month clinical experience at 1 of 9 military hospitals listed below.

Through the US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing, students are instructed in a manner that encourages independent thought and training, in consultation with the surgeons, to save soldiers’ lives.

CRNA Program Requirements
Bachelor degree requirement
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
Critical Care:
ALL Applicants (Active Duty, Reserve/Civilian, VA) must have at least one year of Critical Care Nursing.
ICU in any setting, for example:
- Surgical ICU
- Medical ICU
- CCU
- Neuro ICU
- Trauma ICU
- PICU
- NICU
GPA:
GPA of 3.0 and overall science GPA of 3.0
Minimum GRE scores:
GRE must have been taken within the past 5 years and should be a competitive score.
Certifications:
- CCRN is preferred
CRNA Educational Requirements
- Statistics
- Biochemistry OR Organic Chemistry
Graduate courses are accepted.
Additional Requirements for Civilian Reservists
- If you are a civilian or reservist, there is no “time on station” requirement because you will enter active duty specifically to attend the CRNA program. All requirements for your active duty appointment must be completed prior to the date you enter active duty (usually by February of the year school begins).
- You must meet the requirements for accession onto active duty as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps (see your nearest healthcare recruiter to find out what these requirements are). If you don’t meet the requirements for active duty, you may fail to be accepted, even if you meet all of the requirements for admission into the anesthesia program.
Additional Requirements for Active Duty Applicants
- Two years “time on station” by the date that PCS (Permanent Change of Station) is required.
