Academic and Clinical Experience

The program is dedicated to graduating nurse anesthetists of the highest professional competence residing in a rural area who are committed to returning to rural areas to practice.

During the first 4 semesters, you’ll be completing the bulk of your core classes as well as your nursing anesthesia specialization courses.

For the remaining 3 semesters , you’ll be finishing up your specialization classes while focusing the majority of your time on your clinical experience.



Program Requirements

CRNA Program Requirements – all must be completed by the application deadline

BSN
Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited school.

RN:
Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in Kentucky.

Critical Care:
A minimum of one year of RN experience in an acute critical care setting.

GPA:
Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0; post-master's certificate applicants GPA of 3.5.

Minimum GRE scores:
Minimum GRE score of 1000

TOEFL:
Test Of English as a Foreign Language score 550; pass oral proficiency exam administered by the Department of Nursing, if applicable.

Certifications:

  • CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

CRNA Educational Requirements – must be completed by the application deadline

  • Health Assessment
  • General Chemistry
  • Organic or Bio Chemistry
  • Anatomy/Physiology
  • Statistics (including descriptive and inferential)
  • Nursing Research
  • Pathophysiology is recommended

Current clinical affiliate rotation experiences are conducted at Kosair Children's Hospital and University Medical Center in Louisville, KY; Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, KY; Western Baptist Hospital and Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY; Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour, IN; and Pineville Community Hospital in Pineville, KY.
