Extensive time is required in the clinical setting, beginning with 16 hours a week the first term and concluding with 40 or more hours a week during the final internship.
The primary clinical site is Beaumont, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Beaumont offers 14 surgical specialties including cardiovascular, pediatric, thoracic and vascular surgery.
Other clinical sites include: the Beaumont, Troy and Grosse Pointe campuses as well as 20 affiliate sites.

Didactic Learning
Oakland University School of Nursing uses a variety of teaching formats for its graduate programs.
All required MSN Foundation courses (6 out of 15 non-clinical based classes) are offered via distance learning technology.
The MSN Clinical Core and Specialty courses (the rest of your classes) may be taught entirely using distance learning technology, use a combination of distance learning technology and classroom formats, or be entirely classroom-based.
Distance learning courses at Oakland University may require up to three face-to-face sessions during a semester. For student unable to attend any course’s required face-to-face sessions, every effort will be made to arrange alternate assignments (6 of 15 non-clinical based classes).
Full time distance education classes are attended using video conferencing via the Tandberg Education System for students in Kalamazoo, Marquette and Petoskey. Additional sites may be added.
Human Patient Simulation Technology
The Oakland University Nursing Anesthesia Program has a new 5,500 square foot, $4.5 million Surgical Learning Center. It has two mock operating rooms where anesthesia students can approximate the complexities of anesthesia in a simulated environment to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Here, students can rehearse everything from basic skills to management of difficult case scenarios. The simulation experience consists of a pre-briefing, establishing learning goals, technical introduction, a theory module, conduct of the clinical scenario and debriefing, which includes review of the taped session.
