There is currently a federal law that requires CRNAs to practice under the supervision of a licensed physician but in 2001 a new rule was put into place that allows states to opt out of this federal law. There are 17 states that currently participate in the “opt out”.
What does this mean for you?
This means that as a CRNA if you work in one of these 17 states, you can legally practice without a physician’s supervision.
