CRNA Program Summary

Are you concerned that Union University Jackson TN’s Nurse Anesthesia Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).

This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the end of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.

As a student in this front-loaded program, you’ll spend your first year and a half engrossed in the crna program’s didactic curriculum. During this time, you’ll have the privilege of using a simulation lab that depicts a real-life operating room.

The state-of-the-art Human Patient Simulator (HPS) will give you the opportunity to experience advanced problem-based learning techniques including exposure to critical low-frequency anesthetic events.

As a part of your clinical experience, you’ll rotate through several of the 18 clinical sites throughout Tennessee (Jackson, Memphis, Bartlett, Paris), Arkansas (West Memphis), Alabama (Florence) and Kentucky (Paducah).

A unique aspect of Union University Jackson TN’s CRNA Program is their emphasis on total health, and unlike many schools that were once founded by a religious organization, Union’s CRNA program is still utilizing a God-centered approach.

They encourage patient wellness, recognizing that a person is the summation of their mind, body and spirit, made in the image of God. Illness is an absence of integrated wholeness.

As a part of their emphasis on wellness, they do not allow the use of drugs or alcohol (including cigarettes) within their program. They perform random drug tests (for all students) as well as individual drug tests (if they have reason to suspect a student is doing drugs).

The first positive drug test (having an alcohol test result of 0.04 or greater alcohol concentration or positive drug test) will result in disciplinary action (suspension and mandatory drug counseling). The second positive test will result in termination to the program.

If you’re looking for a Christian school that promotes biblical values and high ethical standards (and you don’t drink or do drugs), this is a great program for you.
