Class Size 22 students (12 for Wichita, 5 for OKC, 2 for Tulsa, 2 for Joplin and 1 for the Garden City primary sites) are admitted to the CRNA program each year.
Number of Applicants Newman University Wichita has 110-115 complete, fully qualified applicants each year for their CRNA School. Of those, the Admissions and Progressions Committee select 50-55 for interviews.

This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.
Academic and Clinical Experience Your first semester is mostly didactic and is held at Newman University Wichita. The curriculum of the program has a wide range of physical, behavioral, and biological science courses to help you establish a theoretical base. Instructional approaches include a one-to-one instructor/student ratio, lecture, lab, self-directed study and structured learning.
During your second semester, you will continue to receive mostly academic instruction and will be introduced to the practice of clinical anesthesia. As you progress through the program, didactic instruction will slowly diminish while your clinical time and case complexity increases.
During your second year, you will explore professional leadership issues while assuming greater responsibility in the hospital through increased call and leadership.

CRNA Program Requirements BSN Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. If you don’t meet this criteria, you will be considered on an individual basis.
RN: Current registered nurse license in the state of Kansas.
Critical Care: Minimum of one year full-time employment as a registered professional nurse in a critical-care setting. The average experience for the successful applicant is 3.7 years

SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit)
CCU (Coronary Care Unit)
Burn Unit
GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0
Minimum GRE scores: A minimum score of 800 (combined verbal and quantitative) is required.
TOELF: International students must demonstrate verbal command of the English language and present either a TOEFL score of 600 or higher or a Level 9 from the Learning Company.

Accredited CRNA Programs are reviewed regularly. Newman University Wichita Nurse Anesthetist Program was last reviewed 05/2011. It was given 10 years accreditation and will be reviewed again 05/2021. This shows that the program is fairly stable.
Pass Rate for CRNA Boards at Newman University Wichita Please note: It is extremely rare for a student at any CRNA school to not eventually pass the exam. Most students who don’t pass the first time pass the second. Very rarely does a person ever take it a third time. This statistic only measures how well the program prepares students to pass the test the first time around.
What can I expect during the interview process? Interviews for the NU Nurse Anesthesia Program are held the last 2 weeks of January by the Admissions and Progressions Committee, made up of the Program Director, Assistant Director, Clinical Director, Medical Director and the CRNA Clinical Coordinators of primary sites.
The interview includes both personal and professional questions, including clinically based questions and scenarios. Interviews are 30 minutes, on average. Successful applicants should be notified by mid February for admissions to the August class.
May I apply by the Nov. 15 deadline if I meet all other requirement but will not complete my BSN until May of the next year, prior to classes starting in August? No. All requirements must be completed by the Nov. 15th deadline. This prevents the program from accepting a prospective student who is unexpectedly unable to complete the requirements for the program prior to starting in August.
Where are the primary clinical sites? Primary clinical sites for the NU program located in Wichita, KS are: Via Christi Saint Francis, Wesley Medical Center, Kansas Surgery and Recovery, Kansas Medical Center and Susan B. Allen Hospital.
The Oklahoma City Primary Clinical Site utilizes McBride Clinic Orthopedic Hospital, the Oklahoma City VA and Duncan Regional Hospital. Non-primary clinical sites include: St. Francis Hospital (Topeka) Salina Regional Medical Center, Lawrence Memorial Hospital (Lawrence) and St. Catherine’s Hospital (Garden City).
